Huanchaco is known for its caballito de totoras, wicker fishing boats used as far back as 3,000 years ago. Anyone who has visited northern Peru has undoubtedly passed Trujillo, a city on the coast. Huanchaco is the tourist resort next to Trujillo. Many excavations have been made in this area from the time of the Moche, a people who inhabited this region 2,000 years ago. This includes potsherds and the like on which these little boats are depicted. As it is generally cloudy in this region during most of the year, I was very lucky to take this picture. The watery sunshine causes the sky to create a colourful bright reflection in the water and the pier, boat and fisherman are depicted as a silhouette against it.
