This road in a valley in Peru (Pastoruri) goes to a famous glacier that can be visited from Huaraz. This valley is home to many 'Queen of the Andes' bromeliads (see my other works for that). Despite looking relatively low, this photo was taken at an altitude of 4,000 metres. It is hard to grasp how high the mountains are and how empty the landscape is. At this altitude, it is already difficult to breathe and exert physical effort, but this road eventually ends at the glacier which is at 5200 metres.
