Flower and flower buds of the Artichoke. A vegetable and also a very pretty ornamental plant. You can clearly see in this image that the flower buds have spines on the bracts that protect the flower. A flower is in full bloom. With fantastically beautiful purple/blue petals. The resemblance to a relative, the thistle, is unmistakable. Usually these photos are taken in a way where the flower is completely detached from the background. Here, the choice has been made to make the background part of the composition. This gives a playful character to the image and is possible because the flower puts itself at the front of the image, as it were, separated by the bright colour. The angled placement of the stems emphasises the playfulness and almost seems to bring movement to the image. As if the flower nodes and the flower are looking at something. It is a cheerful and summery scene that highlights the contrasts between the sharp and hard spines and the soft petals. The blue petals look like a very soft brush and in reality are the runway for the cutest insects with the Bumblebee in the lead. If it is a sunny day, they swarm from light to dark to snack on nectar and bring along starch. In this photo, the emphasis is on the flower and no insects were deliberately photographed.
