About Roman Robroek - Photos of Abandoned Buildings
Roman Robroek is a Dutch photographer specializing in urbex photography and architectural photography of abandoned buildings around the world. From ruined castles and abandoned churches to deserted villas and industrial heritage: Roman captures places left behind by time, places that still tell their own story.
Working with natural light only, he searches for the silence behind the decay: the staircase no one climbs anymore, the walls slowly being reclaimed by nature, the rooms that once were full of life. Every photo invites you to wonder who lived or worked there, and why the door was closed for good.
Roman's work has earned international recognition. He is the first photographer in the history of the Art of Building photography competition, run by the Chartered Institute of Building, to win the title twice, most recently with a photo of an abandoned school in Italy that earned him the Public Choice Award. He has also won the URBAN Photo Awards, received an honorable mention at the International Photo Awards, and was selected for both Historic Photographer of the Year and the Architectural Photography Awards.
