About db Waterman
Thirteen years ago, I resumed my work as an artist. I started out without a budget for expensive paint or large canvases. Instead, I used old leftover paint, worn-out newspapers and magazines. This formed the basis of my first collages.
Through experimentation, I discovered that art is not about expensive materials, but about creativity, layering and the ability to see beauty in imperfection.
I combine photography, collage and various mixed-media techniques to create layered paintings in which abstraction and figuration meet. Weathered textures, urban influences and landscapes form the starting point for this.
My inspiration comes from memories, transience, freedom, nature and the impact of humans on their environment.
What sets my work apart is the combination of my own photography, weathered textures and painting techniques within a single image. I build each painting up layer by layer, creating both depth and a narrative.
What began as a personal quest has grown into an international art practice. My original paintings have found their way to collectors in more than fifteen countries and have been exhibited in cities including New York, London, Paris, Berlin and Amsterdam.
Since 2023, I have been working from my studio/gallery in the creative Strijp-S district in Eindhoven. This is where I create my latest paintings and welcome visitors looking for an original work of art or personalised advice.
