Scottish Highlanders, who doesn't know them. Tough looking, big cows, with mega big horns on their heads. Their fur makes them rugged and authentic.
You can admire these animals at several locations in the Netherlands. The Eiland van Brienenoord, Broekpolder near Vlaardingen and the Bergse Bos are examples of locations in South Holland where you can encounter these animals.
This photo was taken on the Eiland van Brienenoord, in Rotterdam Zuid. The island is a tidal park, home to all kinds of plants and animals. The Highlanders keep the greenery under control. Unfortunately, they are not always in control; on several occasions, the animals have escaped or walked somewhere they were not supposed to.
The animals were basking in the sun, which had not been seen for a while. They were lying there ruminating, and for that reason you can see that its mouth is open. In my post-processing, I made sure there was more contrast in the photo and that the light is clearly coming from one side. This gives a somewhat moody atmosphere to the photo.
Very active in photography since a few years and applying more and more creativity here. I like to photograph women in combination with flowers or leaves. I also like photographing in nature. Birds and other animals, close-ups and dogs or cats.
