Sometimes the magic is just in over your head. When I saw this set of industrial lamps on the ceiling of an abandoned factory, I immediately knew: this image invites confusion as well as wonder.
At first glance, they look like abstract shapes or symbols - even a bit like buttons to me - but if you look longer, you see the depth, structure and repetition of form. The lighting, point of view and black and white enhance the trompe-l'oeil effect: your brain has to puzzle for a while before the whole thing clicks.
Images like this make me smile. They demand attention, force you to look differently. And that 'aha!' always comes, sometimes only after a few moments. I love giving that away.
