Bird's eye view of the historic and very touristy German town of Monschau. The soft light gives the image a 'postcard' look and feel, enhancing the feeling of a miniature town and making it seem like you are looking at a Madurodam version of this mini-city.
The town of Monschau is located in a valley, the photo was taken from the Rahmenberg - one of the surrounding mountains.
The half-timbered houses with their typical slate roofs are snug against each other, and the streets wind between them, down the valley. From those winding streets, you don't realise that everything is so surrounded by nature.
No fewer than three churches with bell towers can be seen in this mini-city. On the hill in the background is the castle.
Change is thankfully slow here - I realise that this view is virtually unchanged from what I would see if I were standing here 100 years ago.
Lots of photos are and have been taken of Monschau, but few from such an angle. If you are looking for a unique image of this pretty town, look no further, because this is without doubt the most beautiful.
