Sometimes the power of a photograph is in its simplicity. At this location I actually had a different goal in mind to photograph, but looking out over the watery reed beds, the unusual sky with billowing clouds caught my eye. It reminded me of undulating water and thus of Hendrik Marsman's well-known poem.
By keeping the reeds low down in the picture I tried to convey the feeling of a wide, flowing river. The fresh bright colors are mainly because the sun was behind me, thus brightly illuminating the reeds and also making the sky that bright blue.
With some imagination, the abstraction can be seen in a realistic photo.
Besides, it is also a work that just gives a nice feeling of freshness because of its minimalist composition and colors. Looking at this image, you feel that it was made on a fresh, chilly, but sunny day - the open space invites you to go out for a brisk walk.
