The picture shows Erfurt's town hall square on a dull, rainy day. At the centre of the picture is Erfurt's town hall, a magnificent building in neo-Gothic style. The ornately decorated façade looks somewhat gloomy in the grey sky, but nevertheless impressive. The tower of the town hall rises strikingly into the cloudy sky.
The square in front of it is sparsely populated - a few people with umbrellas can be seen moving hastily across the wet cobblestones. The shiny stones reflect the dull light of the sky, creating a slightly melancholy atmosphere.
The surrounding buildings, also historic and richly detailed, appear in muted colours. The windows reflect the rain and occasionally you can see water dripping from the roofs. Trees or flowerbeds appear darker due to the damp weather and there is a certain stillness over the square, as if the city is pausing for a moment.
