A low-to-ground black-and-white shot of the pebble beach near Elgol on Isle of Skye captures the rugged beauty of this coast. The wet, smooth boulders glisten gently in the light of the setting sun, which hangs just above the horizon and casts soft shadows across the beach.
The horizon is kept exactly in the middle. The foreground a large flat boulder undulating and shimmering like a calm sea. Beside and over it flushed smaller, round boulders with smooth textures, rolled by centuries of exposure to wind, river and sea water. The black-and-white palette mainly emphasises the shape and the play of light, giving the scene a serene, almost abstract beauty.
Following the viewing line of the boulders to the left, we see three fishing boats bobbing on the horizon, small and silent, almost lost in the vastness of the sea and sky. The setting sun casts a silvery light over the water, which ripples and sparkles under the low sunlight. The sky is overcast, but the sun gets plenty of room in the middle, turning the mountains on the horizon into beautiful silhouettes.
This black-and-white shot of the pebbly beach near Elgol exudes a sense of tranquillity and timelessness. The low angle and attention to detail make it an intimate panorama of a moment of natural harmony between land, sea and sky.
