In an extraordinary black-and-white double-exposure shot, the iconic Neist Point lighthouse on the Isle of Skye is captured in a unique and dreamy way. It is sunset and the lighthouse stands proudly illuminated on the edge of the cliffs, its silhouette sharply outlined against the sea, its white walls brightly contrasting against the dark cliffs below. In the double exposure, time and space blur, giving the scene a mystical, almost surreal character.
The first layer shows the lighthouse in its lonely splendour, with the rocky coast outlining a rugged, dramatic landscape. The second exposure adds a fading disappearance into the sea, making the lighthouse seem to float towards the ships. The setting sun sets the scene in a subtle contrast, beautifully illuminating the foaming water at the bottom of the cliffs.
The sky is rendered almost ethereally, with light, almost ghostly outlines of clouds drifting through the air. While the sea below the cliffs appears to be simultaneously moving and stationary, an effect of the double exposure that gives the water a dreamlike quality.
This black-and-white shot captures the essence of Neist Point in a unique way, merging the power of the sea and the melancholy of the lighthouse into a surreal, timeless atmosphere. The double exposure invites interpretation and wonder, while the iconic image of the lighthouse continues to shine in its simplicity and strength.
