About ‘New York by night’ by Maarten Steunenberg

I took this photo one evening high above Manhattan, from the Top of the Rock. It captures the moment when the city is at its most striking: completely dark, with only the lights remaining.

What strikes me about this image is the contrast between order and chaos. The Empire State Building stands there, sleek and timeless, whilst all around it thousands of lit-up windows sparkle — behind each window, someone working late, eating, coming home. A city of millions, reduced to light and dark. Black and white captures exactly that: without colour, only the essence remains.

For me, this photograph captures the essence of New York better than any colour photograph — the energy, the scale, the realisation that everyone there is part of something bigger.
In an interior setting, this is an image that combines tranquillity and tension. The deep black lends the work power against a light-coloured wall, whilst the details keep inviting you to look again.

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
