Lioness with cubs – wildlife photography by a tree trunk by Laura Georgi Tier- und Ladschaftsfotografie

At the bottom left stands the lioness, her head raised, her gaze directed to the right,
her mouth slightly open. Above her, on the massive, silver-grey, weathered
tree trunk, two of her cubs are playing: one is hanging with its front paws over
an edge and looking down, whilst the second is balancing behind it, its clumsy,
far too large paws perched on the wood. On the far right lies a third cub, half-
, dozing.

This single photograph captures the essence of a lion family. The
mother is not looking at her cubs, but away from them – she is keeping watch whilst
the cubs play. It is precisely this division of roles that makes the image so accessible, even
to viewers who would not otherwise be interested in big cats.

The warm side light falls across the fur and wood, making both glow in shades of gold,
honey and ochre. The mighty trunk, with its cracks, hollows
and moss-green patches, forms a natural framework that distributes the animals across three
levels and gives the image its depth.

As a wall art piece, this motif is warm, narrative and familiar. Gold, ochre and
wood grey suit both natural and modern interiors and work
particularly well in children’s bedrooms, teenagers’ bedrooms, living rooms, hallways, nurseries,
paediatricians’ surgeries, midwives’ practices and waiting areas. On acrylic glass, the
fur shines more intensely, whilst on canvas the scene appears softer and warmer.

A gift for a new baby, for Mother’s Day, for a child’s birthday, for animal lovers and
anyone born under the sign of Leo.
