Piebald in motion with turquoise coloured powder (Holypilver) against a black background

by Laura Georgi Tier- und Ladschaftsfotografie

A brown piebald horse lunges forwards, both front legs in the air, whilst a turquoise cloud of powder rises behind its mane and neck. The powder settles on the mane and neck and drifts out to the right of the frame. The background is black, the body is depicted in light tones, and the white blaze draws the eye to the head. The white blaze remains free of powder and draws the eye to the head.

Holi colour powder is used – a fine, coloured, starch-based powder. The cloud forms in a fraction of a second and never looks the same twice: every movement of the horse shapes it differently, and the photograph captures a single moment from a series that cannot be replicated.

The motif makes a statement. Turquoise against black creates a stark, clear contrast that takes over an entire wall. It suits living rooms, teenagers’ bedrooms, offices, medical practices and restaurants, and looks best in landscape format above a sofa or sideboard.

The turquoise shines brightest on acrylic glass; on canvas, it takes on a softer tone. A gift for people who love colour, and for anyone who finds traditional horse pictures a bit too staid.
