The painting shows the ancient Egyptian god HORUS, who was one of the most important deities in ancient Egypt. Horus was the son of Osiris and Isis. He can be recognised in his typical form as a falcon. The picture shows his head and upper body as they were once depicted on tomb paintings. To emphasise the decay of these paintings, I have added layers of colour to simulate the fact that the tomb paintings are doomed to disappear if they are not protected. Ancient Egypt lasted from 3000 to 30 BC and has therefore not been alive for at least 2000 years.
Next to Horus is the so-called "Udjat Eye", the protective symbol and eye of Horus.
HISTORY: In the beginning, Horus was a sky god in the shape of a falcon and thus also ruler of the celestial airspace. His eyes were the sun and moon and so he also became the sun god, a solar deity, and appeared as Re-Harachte (= "Re-Horus in the horizon") primarily as a living image of the god Horus and thus of his earthly successor, the king.
A great painting for fans of ancient Egypt.
