Haflinger with a wreath of flowers and red smoke, in landscape format by Laura Georgi Tier- und Ladschaftsfotografie

A Haflinger stands in profile facing right, its head lowered, its neck forming a sweeping arc across the picture. A wreath of berry-red and orange dahlias, a salmon-coloured rose and eucalyptus leaves runs along the crest of its mane. Paper butterflies in black and light blue rest on its neck, cheek and temple. Behind the horse, red and grey smoke drifts through the dark room.

Its ears are pointed forwards. Horses move each ear individually using around ten muscles and can rotate it by up to 180 degrees; humans have three muscles for each ear, which have hardly any effect. A horse’s ears reveal which direction it is listening in, and in this picture it is listening forwards, towards the camera.

The landscape format is what really sets this image apart from the others in the series: it fits perfectly above a sofa, bed, sideboard or dining table – precisely where a portrait format would look too narrow.

On canvas, the smoke and blossoms blend softly together; on acrylic glass, the texture of the blossoms and the horse’s coat stand out more clearly. A gift for Haflinger owners, riding stables and farm cafés.
