Haflinger with a wintry wreath in berry shades against a black background by Laura Georgi Tier- und Ladschaftsfotografie

A fox with a light-coloured mane stands in three-quarter profile against a black background; its long mane falls over its forehead and eye, down to its shoulder. Around its neck is a wintry wreath of frost-covered conifer branches, a large magnolia blossom in dusky pink, dark red berries, cones and matt, glittering baubles. Only one eye is visible; its gaze looks calmly into the picture.

Haflingers are always chestnut in colour, ranging from light gold to dark liver brown, and always have a light-coloured mane. The breed originates from the village of Hafling in South Tyrol, and all modern Haflingers trace their lineage back to a single stallion: 249 Folie, born in 1874. Few breeds have such a narrow lineage.

The colour scheme of the wreath is deliberately not reddish-golden, but berry-coloured and frosted. This gives the picture a Christmassy feel without being garish, and means it still looks good in January. It goes particularly well with warm wood, linen and muted red tones.

On canvas, the mane and wreath appear soft, whilst on acrylic glass the berries and frost stand out more clearly. A gift for Advent, for Haflinger owners and for anyone looking for Christmas motifs without the kitsch.
