The thorn apple , also called doll's apple, devil's weed or mole weed, is a plant in the nightshade family (Solanaceae).
It is a highly poisonous plant that contains hallucinogenic alkaloids.
The flowering period is from June to September/October.
The flowers are white, sometimes purple.
The box fruit is egg-shaped and often spiny.
The box fruit, which opens after ripening during the summer, contains hundreds of black, kidney-shaped seeds.
Thorn apple thrives in sunny open places in the dunes with nutrient-rich, upturned, often calcareous soil.
