This photo was taken in Alkmaar.
The cheese market in Alkmaar is held every Friday morning, between 10:00 and 12:00, from the first Friday of April to the first Friday of September at the Waagplein next to the Waag.
There are four barrels (recognizable by the color of the ribbon around the straw hat) of cheese carriers who are engaged in the supply and removal of the flat, South Holland (Gouda) cheese.
The cheeses are tasted, inspected, bought and weighed in and around the Waag.
Usually around 8 cheeses are delivered per berrie (portable), this weighs around 160 kilos together, by two cheese carriers.
The price of the cheese is determined by hand stroke. In the past, mainly North Holland (Edam) cheese was traded.
