Harp: bridge in the Noordelijke Randweg near Nieuw-Vennep over the Hoofdvaart canal. The bridge is 143 m long. Pylon length: 82 m. The Calatrava bridges are three bridges over the Hoofdvaart canal in the Dutch municipality of Haarlemmermeer, designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, who was commissioned to build them in 1999. Calatrava designed three white cable-stayed bridges, each with a sloping steel pylon that has both an aesthetic and a structural function - typical of the Spaniard's work. The bridges were given the names of the instruments Harp, Citer and Lute because of the strings-like masts.
