Black mare in a pink cloud of dust, portrait orientation

by Laura Georgi Tier- und Ladschaftsfotografie

A black mare with a broad white blaze turns her head, whilst a dense pink cloud completely envelops her mane and neck. The powder clumps together at the crest of her mane to form a compact mass and dissipates upwards into fine wisps. Her body disappears downwards into the black; only the outline remains. The lower part of the image fades completely into black, giving the cloud space to expand.

The density of the cloud is created when the powder is applied directly to the mane and released by a movement of the head. The mane hair retains more pigment than the short coat on the body, which is why the colour remains concentrated there, whilst it dissipates immediately everywhere else.

The portrait format makes the image ideal for narrow walls and high-ceilinged rooms: a hallway, a stairwell, between two windows, next to a door. Against a dark wall, the background blends away and only the colour remains visible — the strongest effect this motif can achieve.

On acrylic glass, the pink glows vividly; on aluminium, it appears harsher and more graphic. A gift for those who love colour and for anyone who wants a picture that makes a statement in a room.
