About ‘Back of Huys te Warmont in the snow’ by Richard Nell

At the back of Huys te Warmont, a quieter, almost hidden side of the castle unfolds. No grand entrance here, but a quiet facade overlooking the snowy Krantz forest. The fresh snow softens the shapes of the landscape and puts a thin, bright layer over paths, branches and grass. Everything looks pure and untouched.

I took this photo shortly after a snowfall, at a time when the forest had barely been walked on. Precisely those first hours after snow give a place something fragile. Every detail stands out more: the structure of the walls, the dark windows against the white backdrop, and the long lines of the path leading slowly to the castle.

The atmosphere is quiet, cool and subdued, with an almost timeless character. As if the building has been quietly watching for centuries as the seasons continue to change. Technically, I opted for a calm composition and natural light, allowing the contrast between stone and snow to take centre stage.

In an interior, this work brings a sense of space and stillness. It fits nicely in both modern and rural environments and appeals to lovers of nature, history and typical Dutch winter landscapes.
