Arabian mare with a silver Christmas wreath against a black background by Laura Georgi Tier- und Ladschaftsfotografie

A grey mare of Arabian descent is depicted in three-quarter profile against a completely black background. Her head is delicately chiselled, her profile gently curved, and her ears are bent inwards. Around her neck is a dense garland of silver Christmas baubles in high-gloss, matt and hoarfrost finishes, which reflect the light in dozens of tiny points. The eye rests dark and calm within the light-coloured head.

Arabian mares held a special status amongst the Bedouins of the Arabian Peninsula: bloodlines were traced through the dam, not the sire, and valuable mares were housed in the family tent to protect them from theft and the weather. Horses of the type known today as the Arabian have been archaeologically documented for around 3,500 years.

Silver on white is one of the few Christmas colour schemes that still works after the festive season. The image has a festive feel without being red, and therefore suits rooms that are decorated in a understated style for the rest of the year: hallways, dining rooms, bedrooms, doctors’ surgeries, and courtyard cafés.

The baubles shine brightest on acrylic glass; on canvas, the atmosphere becomes softer and the horse’s coat a warmer shade. A gift for Advent, for owners of Arabian horses and for anyone looking for Christmas motifs in silver rather than red.
