A sea turtle in the vast seagrass meadow by Laura Georgi Tier- und Ladschaftsfotografie

A green sea turtle is swimming across a vast seagrass meadow in the shallow waters of
. This time, it is not the animal that takes centre stage in the picture, but its habitat: the
seabed stretches right to the bottom edge of the frame, with patches of light-coloured sand alternating
with clumps of seagrass, and only far in the distance does the seabed fade into the blue.

From the top left, rays of sunlight pierce the water, casting bright bands across
the meadow. The turtle has lowered its head; fine
sand swirls beneath its belly. It is feeding. This is not a staged moment, but the everyday
behaviour of a wild animal.

As adults, green sea turtles feed almost exclusively on
plant matter and graze on seagrass beds. These beds are among the most productive
habitats on Earth, sequester large amounts of carbon and serve as nurseries for
countless species of fish. The species is classified as endangered.

As a wall hanging, the motif has a calm and expansive feel. It does not draw attention away from the room
but rather opens it up, and therefore works particularly well in large
formats and above wide pieces of furniture: above the sofa, the bed, the sideboard, in the
hallway, in waiting rooms, doctors’ surgeries, diving schools, hotels, travel agencies and
wellness areas. On acrylic glass, the water takes on depth, whilst on canvas the
scene appears softer and more picturesque.

A gift for divers, snorkellers, long-haul travellers and anyone committed to
protecting the oceans.
