This summer, these chicks gave me a very special experience with an eider duck. I saw the eider ducks leading their young to the coast after they hatched in the backcountry. On the coast they are safe from their predators, but not all the chicks reached the coast. I myself have witnessed seagulls trying to catch the chicks. But I am glad that many little chicks made it to the shore and survived. I was also able to observe the first swimming attempts of the chicks without being noticed. I remained undetected by almost all of them. However, only one of the chicks discovered me and looked at me curiously. Immediately afterwards it looked in the direction of the sunset. Thus the sun let the plumage of the small eider duck shine golden, which forms a great contrast to the gray-blue sea.
