A brown pony mare with a golden Christmas wreath against a black background by Laura Georgi Tier- und Ladschaftsfotografie

A brown pony mare stands facing the viewer against a black background; her dark mane falls over her forehead and neck, and a narrow, light-coloured stripe runs across the bridge of her nose. Around her neck is a dense garland of golden Christmas baubles – some high-gloss, some matt and some glittery – which reaches down to her chest. The gold echoes the warm tone of the coat rather than contrasting with it — of all the winter colours, it is the only one that blends seamlessly with a brown horse.

Incidentally, ‘pony’ is not an indication of age. Many people think of a pony as a young horse; in fact, it is determined solely by height at the withers, which in Germany is usually up to 148 centimetres. A fully-grown pony mare therefore remains a pony for her entire life, no matter how old she gets.

The motif is warm and friendly, making it the most approachable Christmas image for spaces where children are present: children’s bedrooms, hallways, kitchens, courtyard cafés and riding stables. It remains appropriate even in January, because gold and brown don’t look like festive colours, but rather like winter.

On canvas, the gold appears warm and calm, whilst on acrylic glass the baubles shine much more brightly. A gift for Advent, for pony owners, riding club members and anyone who prefers warm rather than festive decorations at Christmas.
