A Haflinger rolls around on the beach – a horse in the sand at sunset

by Laura Georgi Tier- und Ladschaftsfotografie

There are pictures where you can tell straight away how the animal is feeling. This
is one such example: a Haflinger has lain down in the sand on the beach, is rolling on
its back and has a hoof in the air. Its light-coloured mane lies spread out
on the sand, its tail fans out, and its whole body exudes contentment
.

Rolling is one of the clearest signs of well-being in horses. They do it
to groom their coats, to relieve itching and simply because it feels good – and they only do it
where they feel safe. A horse that lies down on the open beach
is a relaxed horse.

Behind it lies the sea, calm and rippling silvery in the evening sun. On the
horizon, a narrow golden strip stretches above the wooded opposite shore,
with clouds in shades of cream and apricot above it. A flock of birds flies across the picture. The
light, rippled sand in the foreground draws the eye to the animal.

As a wall hanging, this motif is warm, cheerful and unusual. It brings together two
worlds that rarely meet: horse and sea. Shades of sand, gold and blue
suit maritime, rustic and light-coloured interiors – in the living room,
dining room, hallway, coastal holiday homes, riding stables,
tack rooms, farm cafés and country hotels. On canvas, the evening atmosphere
appears particularly soft, whilst on acrylic glass it is more luminous.

A gift for riders, horse owners, holidaymakers on the Baltic Sea,
beach riders and anyone who knows what this moment smells like.
