In dit album staan foto's van de McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II. De F-4 Phantom II is een gevechtsvliegtuig dat door McDonnell Aircraft Corporation werd ontworpen en gebouwd eind jaren '50. Het toestel was tijdens de Koude Oorlog één van de beste gevechtsvliegtuigen en werd al snel MIG Killer genoemd. Die bijnaam kreeg het omdat er tijdens de Vietnamoorlog veel Mig's heeft neergeschoten. Het prototype van de F-4 maakte haar eerste vlucht in 1958 en in 1963 waren de eerste toestellen klaar voor levering aan de U.S. Air Force. Het vliegtuig was in eerste instantie bedoeld voor de U.S. Navy, maar al snel kregen ook de U.S. Air Force en de U.S. Marines Corps de beschikking over de F-4. Het toestel was in eerste instantie niet uitgerust met een boordkanon. Gedurende de oorlog in Vietnam kreeg het gelukkig een boordkanon. De F-4 met boordkanon (F-4E), de gunfighter-versie, is nog steeds bij de luchtmacht van Zuid-Korea (medio 2024 uit dienst genomen), Griekenland, Egypte, Iran en Turkije in gebruik. Van de Phantom zijn bijna 5.200 toestellen gebouwd en is zeer geliefd bij vliegtuigspotters. McDonnell Aircraft Corporation fuseerde in 1967 met Douglas Aircraft Company tot McDonnell Douglas.
