A long time ago, I once entered a poetry competition. I had a small book in which I made notes, and sometimes a poem would emerge from that. Around 1998, T.D.S. Printing Works organised a poetry competition. Frans Eikenbroek and Peter Bulthuis (both deceased) were the driving forces behind this publication. The booklet disappeared into a box in the attic, but not completely out of my mind.
Last year, I re-read the booklet with a smile and put it on the bookshelf. At the time, I had won a shared first place, but without a prize, for my epigrams. I myself just call them little poems.
Now that I regularly convert words into images, it suddenly occurred to me: what if I translate my poems into images? That should be possible.
The result is this series of works:
"Woman on sofa" - based on this poem:
"On you I set my sights, on your breasts the first,
and on your buttocks the last verse."
(You can decide the order, by the way.)
