On the occasion of the New York Marathon, I was in that metropolis. Not as a participant, but as a photographer for a well-known magazine for runners. While thousands of women and men were running the 42.195 km, I wandered through Central Park looking for pictures, but also a good place for photos of runners.
The advantage of running a marathon in the fall, is that even in that big city there are beautiful fall colors everywhere. Coincidentally, the woman in this work was going to wait for a while. Right under the tree in this work with its popping colors of yellow, red and orange, giving an aura of gold. The other coincidence was that her coat was just the right shade of yellow, her hair was the color of the tree trunk and her stockings were the color of the black earth. As I got my camera ready, I sincerely hoped she would stay put for a while. Fortunately, she did.
To me, this is an outstanding autumn image: the exuberant, splashing colors and, at the same time, the introspective woman. A departure from the exuberance of summer and a return to your own inner self.
