About ‘Van Gogh's yellow in Finnish birches’ by Susan Hol

The artist Vincent van Gogh used a lot of yellow in his works of art. Sunny yellow. The yellow of the southern French summer days. Fascinating and beautiful, as well as inspiring. When I was in Finland, in autumn, I was struck by that same sunny yellow. The birch trees turn bright yellow in that season. It lights up the whole landscape.
Of course, I took countless photos. Unfortunately, an ordinary photograph shows too many ordinary things. The impression, the overwhelming feeling when standing among those yellow birches, does not come out in a photograph. To still capture that feeling, I started editing my photos.
In this work, you can see the impression of the tree trunks in the vertical lines. The yellow sweeping into each other are the countless bright yellow birch leaves. The white parts represent the light. With autumn and falling leaves, open areas appear in the treetops. To the left of the image, I placed a tree with some red, gold, brown and purple as a contrast. This makes the yellow splash off the canvas extra strong. The light criss-cross stripes at the bottom of the image is originally very soft, almost luminous, feather grass.
The image is ideal if you want to bring some sunshine into your home!
