Passau was an unscheduled stop on the way back home. Just across the border from Austria lies this crown jewel in Bavaria, Germany that is. Three rivers converge here. The Inn, Danube and Ilz, and you can see the different colours of water flowing side by side as you look at the rivers from Veste Oberhaus.
Passau is a historic city dating back to the Celts and the Romans. Many old houses and buildings have been preserved. You sometimes really imagine yourself in the Middle Ages. The old houses reflect in the water of the river. Like here, Veste Niederhaus. The red roofs and white walls go well with the clear blue sky of summer. The hills in the landscape add to the romance.
And what a city! Not only full of historical buildings, The city has two castles and a cathedral, it is also a lively city with lots of jazz and students. We were only there briefly, but I can really recommend this green, historic city between the rivers to anyone. Full of surprises, like the road to the altstadt via the old railway.
