While hiking in the province of Drenthe in the Netherlands, my friend and I came across an area that is usually wet and swampy. You can't walk there then without being up to your knees in water. Persistent dry weather has turned it into a wet swamp where you can walk and enjoy nature. We are both photographers and the storks looking for food are then a welcome change from everything else interesting in this nature. This stork (Ciconia ciconia) is looking for food and walks stately devouring small critters. Usually you see the storks on grasslands that have just been mowed to look for killed critters. Now this beautifully elegant large bird is in its natural element and can devour live prey. From frogs and mice and all insects catchable with its beak. The yellow background completes the picture. I am delighted with this bird.
