A row of wooden poles stick out above the water, marking the place where the nets are submerged.
The water and sky have a special colour in the winter weather. The steel blue colour of the water still gently reflects traces of sunlight. And the wind pushes gullies into the water that leave dark shadows. After all these years of driving along the Markermeer, this unique blue colour is present for the first time. Looking for a unique point where there would be the least possible disruption to the effect, I saw these wooden poles. This was the ultimate spot to capture this spectacle. The icing on the cake is the boat at the back right of the picture.
The calmness of the foreground draws you into the image and allows your mind to wander to places you can think of. The clouds complete the picture and can be seen as the thoughts coming and going.
A moment like this doesn't come along often and gives a special feeling, one that can be different for every person.
