The courtship ritual of grebes is one of the most beautiful spectacles you can see on the European continent among birds. When both end the simultaneous dance, turn around simultaneously and then dive underwater at the same time, you know the penguin dance is coming. On the bottom, they then search for nesting material, swim flat across the water towards each other and start dancing with their chests against each other while treading water. For them, this is synonymous with 'with you, I want to take care of the offspring'. Every year again in early spring, this ritual repeats itself and each time it fascinates me enormously.
