In the harbour of Oudeschild lies the impressive Kleine Jager, a sailing memory from 1892. Weighing a whopping 108 tonnes and with her sturdy lines, this ship breathes the atmosphere of days gone by. Sailing ships like this one were once the workhorses of the sea, built to carry cargo and stories across the waters. Now she lies quietly at the quay, as a living witness to more than a century of history. Deployed in this century to transport tourists across the Wadden Sea.
What touches me about this image is the silence and power that are palpable at the same time. You see the flags gently moving back and forth in the wind and the water rippling peacefully around the hull. Yet you also feel the soul of a ship that has weathered storms and made countless voyages.
