I like to go out with my D700 and the macro 105 screwed on, looking for details of larger wholes. In Hoorn harbour, there is a host of possibilities in this regard. Not so long ago, I went to work on the Houten Hoofd - the wooden mooring pier in Hoorn harbour. The skipper of one of the historic boats watched me for a while and then jokingly remarked whether I wouldn't like to put his whole boat on it too. I took this detail shot of a story clamp guiding a sturdy rope in the harbour in May 2012. It is nice to see how, in shipping, people can turn small forces into big ones in simple but effective ways. Rope is an important tool. In this detail, the ravages of time can be seen beautifully in the rope as well as paint and metal.
