This picture gives you the image of days gone by in the Eastern Bloc, but was taken a year or two ago in the area around Amstelveen. Along the Amsterdam forest, a group of volunteers operates a small railway line on which a number of trams like this run. Regularly - but at least on every Sunday during the summer season - trains run on this track from Haarlemmermeer station to Bovenkerk.
When I saw a little red train riding after a visit to the Amsterdam Forest, I made a deal with myself to return here again with my camera. With the aim of taking a photo exactly like the one I took. With a red train on it and the intention to convert to black and white and then bring back the red. It still wasn't easy to do. The best way to stay near the train was to ride along on it, but that also makes sure you don't get the outside on it. At a little station, I quickly took this photo.
