About the artwork
An artwork depicting silence should not consist of a white surface. That would be bland. Moreover, it gives silence no context or space for personal interpretation. Hence, silence has indeed been given colour and form here. But gently: pastel shades, subtle gradients and blurred contours.
The trigger for this artwork is a book. Norwegian adventurer Erling Kagge wrote 'Silence in the age of noise'. He argues that silence should mainly be found in one's own inner self. Far journeys are not necessary. This gave Harry Wibier (the maker of this work) the idea of creating works of art that can help viewers find that inner silence in their own living space.
For this project, Harry made almost a hundred preliminary studies using AI. He then heavily edited the nine best results in the drawing programme Krita. In it, he applied multiple layers with subtle gradients, brought the colours closer together and softened the shapes, among other things.
The artworks are made to stare at. If the viewer discovers the subtlety of the colours and meanwhile lets his or her thoughts wander slowly until he or she finds inner peace, the creator has achieved his goal. That said, the artworks can successfully fulfil a decorative function in any interior.
