The image struck me: the palisade of a dilapidated pier in Amble. The rhythm of the piles, disturbed here and there by a broken-off one. But also the dark colours of the wood against the bright blue sky in the background.
I did have to figure out how to get to the pier to take the picture I had in my mind. The jetties of the marina offered solace.
The photo shows that it is low tide. The river Coquet then falls almost completely dry. But in the marina, the boats stay afloat because it is behind a sill that prevents the marina from emptying.
