Raindrops on a green leaf – a macro photograph taken after the rain

by Laura Georgi Tier- und Ladschaftsfotografie

Shortly after the rain: on a broad, deeply ribbed leaf,
countless water droplets – large and small, perfectly round or blurred into tiny lenses
– rest on the surface without sinking in; the waxy coating of the
leaf repels the water, and surface tension pulls each droplet into
its spherical shape. Each one acts like a tiny magnifying glass: in the larger ones
the light is reflected as a bright spot, whilst in the smaller ones the green
of the leaf beneath is concentrated.

The focus lies on a narrow strip in the centre of the image; towards the front and
towards the back, everything dissolves into soft areas. This creates a sense of depth, even though
the subject is barely larger than the palm of a hand. In the background, further
leaves appear as tranquil patches of green and yellow-green. The parallel leaf veins
give the photograph its structure and guide the eye from the bottom left to the top right.

As a wall hanging, this motif has a distinctly tranquil feel. Green and water are the
two elements that are deliberately incorporated into interior design when a
space is intended to be relaxing – which is why the image is particularly well-suited to doctors’ surgeries,
physiotherapy practices, psychotherapy practices, midwifery practices, yoga studios, spa and
wellness areas, waiting rooms, offices and meeting rooms, as well as
bathrooms, bedrooms or living rooms. As no specific motif is recognisable
, it does not clash with any interior design. On acrylic glass, the droplets appear particularly
clear and glossy, whilst on canvas they look softer and more matt.

A gift for gardening enthusiasts, plant lovers, macro photographers and anyone
who needs a sense of calm on their wall.
