Avignon in the late afternoon, August 2021. It is a tremendously hot day, but the enchanting Mediterranean invites photography.
I am not the only tourist and photographer in Avignon. By the hundreds, they crowd together around the Palais des Papes. I decide to follow the light.
Suddenly I am triggered by this setting: an olive tree attached to a church in the center of town and a canopy. Basically a random cityscape, were it not for the evening light that made it so interesting.
The skimming light over the church, shining on the canopy and giving the green leaves a golden glow, that's how beautiful it can be.
If you look closely at the photo, you will actually see that the little building is a covered staircase leading to a public restroom. The person going right in here is unrecognizable (we respect people's privacy, especially in such a situation), stands out nicely against the golden yellow stone of the church and is moving. A "moment décisif" or decisive moment.
