About the artwork

This is a digital artwork created by a fusion between a drawing and a painting. The drawing was created using drawing techniques of pencil and charcoal and the painting is made up of multiple layers of various painting techniques. Also, this picture has a grainy texture which shows up very nicely on canvas.

The work was inspired by a film shot I took during a summer day in Zoutelande, Zeeland. There I came across an unspoiled stretch of dune with an unobstructed view between the marram grass to the horizon. At that moment I found it special because that day it was quite busy on the beach and in the sea. When I took the picture, hordes of people walked past me.

I decided to make a work of art out of this little scene because the image arouses certain feelings in me. From soothing to mischievous. Such a quiet sheltered secluded spot in the dunes with a beautiful view is an ideal setting for romance. Sometimes I imagine two lovers together on a picnic blanket with a bottle of wine... and what happens next is up to you. Of course, many scenarios can be imagined with this image because this image lends itself perfectly to them.

Especially the peace it gives me by simply staring at the horizon between the grass on the sand of the dunes is something I get from few of my other works. It awakens an inner calm in me from which I can relax wonderfully.

Personally, I think the most special thing about this work is that it gives me a feeling of both freedom and security and that it both stimulates and blocks my thoughts. It is able to empty my head and fill it with inspiration. It is not for nothing that this work of art hangs in my workspace.
