The former Amsterdam Main Post Office (now shopping center Magna Plaza) is located on the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal behind the Palace on the Dam. The building was constructed in a mixture of neo-styles, in which in particular neo-Gothic and neo-Renaissance elements were used (also called: post office gothic). It ranks 6th in the 1990 'Top 100 of the Rijksdienst voor de Monumentenzorg'.
The Main Post Office was built in the period 1895-1899 to a design by government architect C.H. Peters to replace the Royal Post Office from 1854 by F.W. Conrad and Cornelis Outshoorn on the then still unmolested Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, which served as an exhibition building just before it was demolished in 1897.
