Lavender bushes should be planted 30 centimetres apart (depending on the variety). To prevent overgrowth, where the lavender turns into a massive bush with thick branches, it should be pruned twice a year. If this is not done, it will grow thicker and thicker branches and the bush will no longer contain flowers at the base.
The first pruning takes place in the second half of March. Here the plant can be pruned to 15 cm above the ground. After this, new twigs will quickly grow upwards and produce flowers.
The second pruning takes place after flowering (August to October). This time, only the flowers should be removed. The plant should therefore not be cut short as it will not survive the winter.
