When you think of holidays by the sea, images of beaches, waves and lighthouses immediately spring to mind.
These striking and highly visible structures are true landmarks of all coastal areas of the world.
With their beacons, they safeguarded shipping for many years and guided sailors into harbours.
Lighthouses are true symbols of holidays by the sea.
Naturally, I was also drawn to the lighthouses during a holiday on the North Sea coast.
One of the most famous lighthouses is the one at Westerhever, near the well-known spa and holiday resort of Sankt Peter Ording.
On my walk around the lighthouse, I found this beautiful perspective with the white tufts of cotton grass in the foreground and the grass bending in the wind behind it. You can literally feel the fresh coastal breeze.
Individual white cumulus clouds passed by in the blue sky as if they had been ordered. The red and white colouring of the lighthouse contrasts beautifully with the blue sky and the green of the meadows.
I stayed at the spot for a while and enjoyed the view. Just let the wind blow around my ears, savour the salty air and watch the clouds drift past the striking lighthouse.
An idyllic picture of the coast that brings back memories of a past holiday, or one to come.
