I literally photographed this honey sucker in my own backyard. I lived in Ethiopia for over four years and so I took this photo there.
Honey suckers are beautiful birds; the males have a colourful and iridescent plumage. It is often not easy to photograph them, as they move from flower to flower, staying in the same place for a few seconds at most. But this honeyeater was sitting in a bush and resting. He took me in somewhat suspiciously, but did give me the opportunity to zoom in on him from a metre or two away. Focusing was still a challenge, the camera easily focused on surrounding branches, but in the end it worked.
There is something mysterious about the photo, while the beauty and character of the bird is well expressed.
