Hekima
Ubuntu
My collection UBUNTU is inspired by Nelson Mandela's philosophy. The South African wisdom that we are all connected: WE are more than I am. For this series, I went on a journey with my brushes. The focus is on so many wonderful, different people living together in one world.
In the 'IK' era we live in now, I think it is important to show how beautiful WE are.
Hekima means wisdom in Swahili. In Africa, older women are valued for their wisdom and life experience. Hekima is painted with oil paint and acrylic on linen with coconut hair and remains of coconut. The coconut is the fruit that gives us the most: food, drink and tools.
