Five figures in yellow

by Petra Schüßler

“Five Figures in Yellow” is a real crowd-pleaser and bestseller from my extensive figurative series “Figures in Space”, which was created between 2005 and 2015.

This expressive landscape-format painting depicts five shadowy, slender silhouettes standing gracefully against a light-filled backdrop. The painting captivates with its extremely lively, sunny colour palette: a radiant interplay of bright sun-yellow, warm Indian yellow and soft orange hues instantly floods any room with pure light and cosy warmth. Just as with my work ‘Ancient Hallway’, the creation of this piece is based on a deeply tactile and intuitive process: I sketched the delicate silhouettes directly onto the canvas entirely without a brush – using only my fingers. The glazed areas of colour were applied vigorously with a palette knife, whilst meditative Tibetan mantras and mysterious symbols were etched directly into the still-damp surface. This lends the composition a vibrant, multi-layered surface texture full of spiritual depth.

In an interior setting, this work makes an unmistakable, positive statement. It brings a contagious zest for life and brightness to any room. As a large-format eye-catcher in the living room, dining area or office, this luminous artwork magically draws the eye and creates an atmosphere of harmony and optimism.
